This includes all seven chapters!
Update: This volume has been cleaned and fixed in certain parts, mainly for any blurry/fuzzy text. Bear and animal noises have their appropriate fonts, although some older sounds we used to keep in have been left in, since they aren't distracting like any poor quality effects that I've removed. Some SFX have been left since it would take too much time to redo all of them. Our new logo has also been added!
Those Kai tempers amuse me way more than they should... And they have probably the worst memory of any sentient being, ever. How many Great Danes named Ben do you know, guys? Especially if you saw him more than once in your life. LOL.
Ahh, I've always adored the image that appears before chapter 7, with Gin and the skulls. I just love Yoshi's style in general when it comes to the GNG manga.
Also, I wonder if the one dog next to Ben on page 121 is Cross? If so, she looked a lot more sinister in her first appearance.
I like the note you put on page 327, it's very interesting to know, and I admit I was confused earlier on when the Kai Brothers kept calling each other "Red Brindle", etc. And yes, they really have bad memories, not being able to remember Ben lmao.
I'm pretty sure it is indeed supposed to be Cross on that page. There was a conversation back on the individual chapter's release thread about whether or not Yoshi originally intended her to be male or female. The first few chapters involving her, she looks somewhat masculine and doesn't start morphing into a more feminine appearance until she's revealed to be female, later on. So we theorized that maybe Yoshi didn't decide on her sex until later, but of course that was speculation.
About the Kai bros, I'm pretty convinced that they're a bit dumb, LOL. I mean, they couldn't tell Cross had a distinct lack of dangly parts, let alone recognize Ben. I mean, one could argue that since they'd been in the wilderness since they were tiny babies, they wouldn't have really met any girls, but I'm fairly certain they know what the fundamental differences are...
Ahh, I did not think to look back on the chapter discussions. x) But that does sound like something Yoshi would do, so I think the speculation is pretty well-founded (that, and/or Yoshi just wanted all of the wild dogs to appear really sinister in their first appearance).
the change in the kias names confused me at first but then i simply accepted then they changed back. thanks for another great volume
I'm pretty sure it's meant to imply that the Kais never had names, and only called each other by color, which is why I chose to translate the longer 'names.' In Japanese, the 'names' don't change - they just get shortened. But since they start being treated like more concrete given names at that point, I added the note to explain that fact when I started leaving them in name form.
With how much I liked Daisuke pointing out that Gin is only being used this way because of his brindle colour, it's really annoying how from this volume forward, Yoshi refers to Gin's 'brindle instincts.' Whatever, Yoshi.
I still feel pretty bad for Momma Bear, she just wanted to protect her babies... and the cub-killing made me really dislike John the first time around, but I eventually came to love his ridiculous, self-confident, arrogant attitude.
I always wonder how many dogs died trying to jump that canyon and prove their worth. :c
I have to agree that the Kai bros really aren't that bright, and Yoshi really starts to showcase his sexism here with Cross being totally dismissed the instant they realize she doesn't have a dick. I'd also like to know why they hate Moss so much, considering how much respect he says he has for them.
